Eli Wilson
Having established the reputation as one of Canada's top goaltending coaches, Eli brings an immeasurable amount of experience to World Pro Goaltending. Not only is he able to vastly improve a goaltender's technique, he also demonstrates an uncanny ability to develop his students both physically and mentally through rigorous, high repetition drills. Eli utilizes his comprehensive understanding of the game to simplify the goaltending position and in turn create the ultimate hybrid goaltender. Eli currently he goaltending coach for the Ottawa Senators of the National Hockey League. In addition of working with the Senators’ goalies, Eli also trains numerous NHL, AHL, and WHL goaltenders.
Tyler Love
This WHL alumnus has been training goaltenders for the past decade. Tyler brings a positive and serious presence to the World Pro Centre. He concentrates on positioning and proper technique with his students, developing them through a series of graduated stages. He demonstrates unrivaled patience and a clear understanding of the goaltending position making him an ideal instructor and mentor for goalies of all ages. Tyler’s resume includes numerous success stories. Not only has Tyler been instrumental in elevating a number of goaltenders from beginner to the NHL, AHL, WHL and College levels; he also continues to train many of them today. Tyler also works with Hockey Canada and numerous Junior “A” and NCAA teams.
Todd Laurin
After a successful goaltending career in the OHL and WPHL Todd has turned his attention to training goalies full time. He brings an incomparable enthusiasm and positive energy to the World Pro facility. A gifted athlete himself, Todd specializes in teaching goalies the art of proper positioning, quick reaction and recovery. Todd instills a desire for excellence into every goaltender he trains. His superior knowledge of the position has enabled Todd to successfully enhance the playing level of hundreds of goalies from all levels of hockey.
J.F. Martel
Having only recently retired from competition, this University of Calgary alumus has already established himself as one of the premier goaltending coaches in Western Canada. Born in Quebec, he was among the first generation of goaltenders to use the butterfly style. This put him in a unique position to instruct today’s goaltenders. When working with goaltenders, J.F. stresses hard work and simplicity in the movements and execution. He brings more than 10 years of experience working with goalies of all level across Canada and his currently the goaltending consultant for the Medicine Hat Tigers of the WHL.
Chris Piku, WorldPro - USA Instructor
A life time student of the goaltending position, Chris has been instructing goalies for 10 years and strives to study and remain on the cutting edge of modern goaltending evolution. Over 200 students from ages 8 thru adult, male & female, take year round private lessons and attend camps in Detroit. Many of his students played and won state championships last season. They continue to stand out as the best goalies in the area. More refined in their movement, in control and rarely out of position, providing their team consistency in goal every game. Our Detroit students play: Junior, College, High School, AAA, Travel, House.
Chris Piku teaches the WorldPro system of position first and explosive foot speed movement on skates and pads with the ability to get there on time, make a simple save and control the rebound. A goalies individual movement is broken down to small game situation components and then repeated over and over. Efficient goalie practice has everything to do with correct use of repetition and variety. Chris’ goalies can take a team from Good to Great with the consistent ability to make hard saves with regularity.
Bob Essensa, World Pro - USA Instructor
Bob joined World Pro USA’s team three years ago and bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to World Pro training. Essensa played four seasons of College hockey at Michigan State from 1983 to 1987. He was drafted 71st overall by the Winnipeg Jets in 1983. He played for six NHL teams over a 14 year professional career. Bob is now the goaltending coach for the Boston Bruins of the National Hockey League. His NHL experience mixed to his understanding of the modern butterfly technique give Bob a unique perspective on the position. When working with his students he stresses a butterfly with athleticism and a read-and-react style.
